About Me

Who is the Spanglish speaker®?  Well, I am above all a teacher - an educator.  I have been working in Spain for the last 30+ years as an EFL/ESL teacher, focussing mainly on the business world. 

 

I love my job and I love helping my students acquire the language (English).  Helping them on their journey towards independent communication is one of the most satisfying aspects of the work I do.

 

Through this experience I have come to understand the common challenges faced by all my students, from beginner to advanced.  It’s these common errors and mistakes made by many Spanish students that have created this interface language known as Spanglish.  Using a false friend, putting the words into the wrong order, collocating incorrectly, and sometimes inventing new words is the basis of Spanglish.

 

While at times these mistakes will make no difference to your communicative abilities, at other times they may actually cause a communication breakdown.

 

The Spanglish Speaker® hopes to be a place where you can learn and practice your English, taking into account the common problems often faced by Spanish speakers.  Giving you “bite-sized” lessons with some humour sprinkled in to make it all easier to digest.
